Thorpe Park height restrictions run from 0.9m on the youngest family rides up to 1.4m for the biggest roller coasters. The thresholds that matter are 1.4m (the major coasters plus The Walking Dead: The Ride, Vortex and Samurai), 1.3m (Hyperia, Ghost Train, Detonator and Rush), 1.2m (Tidal Wave and Quantum), 1.1m (Zodiac, Storm Surge, Dobble Tea Party and Big Easy Bumpers) and 0.9m (Flying Fish, Depth Charge, High Striker and Mr Monkey's Banana Ride). Once a child reaches 1.4m, every ride in the park is open to them.

Heights below are the park's published minimums for the 2026 season. Staff measure at the ride entrance and the decision there is final, so if your child is borderline it is worth measuring at home in the shoes they will wear on the day. Restrictions can change between seasons and rides occasionally operate with different limits. Always check the sign at the ride entrance, or thorpepark.com, before you queue.

What can you ride at each height?

Height is what determines access at Thorpe Park, not age. Every ride in the park has a minimum of at least 0.9m, so there is nothing for a child under that height. These are the five thresholds that change what a day at the park looks like.

What can a 6 year old ride at Thorpe Park?

There is no minimum age on most rides, so the question is really about height. A typical 6 year old is around 1.15m, which clears the 1.1m band. At that height they can ride Flying Fish, Depth Charge, High Striker, Mr Monkey's Banana Ride, Zodiac, Storm Surge, Dobble Tea Party and Big Easy Bumpers as a passenger.

At 1.2m they add Tidal Wave and Quantum. The big thrill rides come later than most people assume: Detonator, Rush, Hyperia and Ghost Train all need 1.3m, and the major coasters (plus The Walking Dead: The Ride, Vortex and Samurai) need 1.4m. Because each centimetre matters, measure before you book rather than after you arrive.

Worth knowing: Thorpe Park is built around thrill rides for teenagers and adults, and has a much smaller family offering than Chessington or Legoland. For under-1.2m visitors in particular, those parks give a fuller day.

Weight and size restrictions

Thorpe Park does not publish a weight limit. What matters is whether the restraint closes and locks correctly, so chest and waist measurements are the real constraint rather than weight on its own. Most major coasters have a test seat next to the entrance, and using it before you join a 45-minute queue is always worth the thirty seconds.

The tightest restraints in the park are on Hyperia, Stealth, SAW – The Ride and The Swarm. A handful of rides also carry a maximum height of roughly 1.95m–2.0m, generally where over-the-shoulder restraints or enclosed cars are involved.

Measuring and wristbands

Children are measured at the first ride they queue for and, on most days, given a coloured wristband matching their height band. That wristband is then accepted across the park, so you only get measured once. Shoes are worn for the measurement, but thick soles are usually accounted for – do not count on trainers to get a borderline child over a threshold.

If a child is refused at the entrance, the ride host's decision is final. It is not worth arguing, and the measurement is the same at every ride in the park.

Planning around height restrictions

If part of your group can't ride the big coasters, the queue data helps more than you might expect. Rides at 1.2m and below are almost always shorter waits than the headline coasters, so a family split works well: one adult queues for Stealth while the rest do three or four family rides in the same window.
