About Ghost Train

Thorpe Park's Ghost Train is not a traditional ghost train in the fairground sense - it is a fully immersive indoor horror attraction with production-quality set design, special effects, and live scare actors who interact with guests throughout the experience. Riders travel through a series of themed environments in a vehicle that moves slowly through the attraction, with actors performing scripted and improvisational scares along the route.

The attraction is part of Thorpe Park's positioning as a horror-themed destination - alongside Fright Nights in October, the park has invested significantly in year-round scare experiences. Ghost Train represents a step above the standard dark ride format, using physical set pieces, lighting effects, sound design, and live performance together.

What to Expect

The experience is atmospheric rather than physically intense - there are no significant drops, inversions, or speed. The scare delivery comes from sudden appearances, physical proximity of actors, darkness, sound design, and jump scares. The quality of the experience can vary depending on how the live actors are performing on a given day.

Being fully indoor makes Ghost Train weather-proof and a good option on rainy days when outdoor ride queues are shortened. Queue times tend to be lower than the major coasters but the attraction's capacity is also lower, so waits can be longer than expected relative to other flat rides.

Tips for Ghost Train

  • Not suitable for young children. The live actor scares and horror imagery are designed for older visitors. This is not an attraction for under-10s or children sensitive to horror themes.
  • Good on rainy days. Fully indoor and atmospheric - one of the better rainy-day options when you want something different from the coasters.
  • Go in the evening if possible. The attraction runs better with a full group and in lower-light conditions - later in the day typically provides both.
  • Actors vary. Live performance means the experience varies between visits and even between groups in the same session. Manage expectations accordingly - it will be consistently atmospheric, but the quality of individual scares is variable.
  • Check the live queue page before walking over. Ghost Train's capacity is lower than its visible queue suggests - what looks like a short line can be a 30-minute wait.
